I have parental envy. With social media being so large, I see on a daily basis so many other parents, kids and their day to day lives. Because of this I suffer from the modern, recently coined social media parental envy. I don’t know if this is a thing, but I am claiming it.
I know what you are thinking, be yourself, don’t judge others, you can’t compare. But I do, I really do. I have parental envy with the friends living in warm climates. Out and about with their kids in short sleeves. My cold, shivering hands raise up to the sky and yell, “Why?”
I grew up in sunny San Diego, I don’t recall the weather specifically growing up. It was just always 85 and sunny. I moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin when I was 18, for lots of reasons I won’t get into. It was a few years plan, and then I met my Wisconsin-bred husband. You know the story, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes three kids, a lower cost of living, stuck in Midwest winter, house in the ‘burbs, and a Mini Van carriage…. The classic love story. Heard of it?
I am currently having to run my kids to and from the car with coats, gloves and hats on. It is March. MARCH! My kids are 7, 5 and 3. They are getting cabin fever. Sometimes they play nicely, but at this point… most of the time it is all person for themselves. The house and it’s inhabitants are on edge. There are fights over the remote, throw downs with someone being too loud, throw yourself on the floor tantrums. And that is just me.
