We live in a cold region. Should my baby sleep with a hat on?

It is actually safer for children not to sleep with a hat, even if it is cold outside. Doctors typically recommend that only babies who are underweight or who were born prematurely wear hats. These babies might need more help staying warm at night.

Hats have a tendency to cause babies to overheat as they sleep. In fact, doctors recommend that parents avoid hats to keep their children from experiencing SIDS. Hats can easily slip down over your baby’s face, and the result can be devastating. As you probably know, it is wise to avoid putting your baby in bed with any unnecessary items.
