What learning disorders are common in children?


Learning disorders are not uncommon in children, and they often result in decreased self-esteem and motivation at school. Fortunately, teachers can often catch learning disorders before they become a huge problem. Parents can also get involved by looking for signs of a disorder at home.

Dyslexia is one o the most common learning disorders. Children with dyslexia find it difficult to recall words, read and spell. Dyscalculia is similar, but it is related to math instead of language.

Nonverbal learning disabilities are also a problem for many students. This is a disorder in which the child lacks coordination and typical body language.

Speak to your pediatrician if you think your child might have a learning disorder.
