How do I know if my toddler is overweight?

Unfortunately, many parents fail to realize that their toddlers can be overweight. Additionally, seeing your child every day might make it difficult to notice changes in weight. Doctors typically use health charts to ensure that a child is in the healthy weight range. These charts use the body mass index (BMI) as a determining factor.

The BMI is based on height and weight, and a growth chart demonstrates where the child comes in compared to other children the same age. A toddler heavier than 95% of other children is typically considered obese. The pediatrician will make the best judgment as to whether or not a child is in the healthy weight range.

Please check with your doctor regarding any health related questions or issues.
