What happens when my water breaks?

Answer: When your water breaks, it means that the fluid-filled sac, also known as the amniotic sac, that surrounds the baby ruptures and it’s usually the official start of your labor. The fluid will come out of your vagina either as a trickle or in a gush. If it’s the former, it may be difficult to tell that your water broke until contractions begin.
