6. Pick fruit and make breads and jellies. At the end of harvest, many local farmers will allow the public to come into the fields and pick the leftover fruit. Take a group of kids and help pick and seed the fruit. Once it is all washed and the seeds are removed, make fruit breads, pies, cobblers or jellies and jams. Kids love to help in the kitchen, especially when there is a reward at the end.
7. Play Hide And Go Seek. Have one kid close his eyes while the rest of the kids hide. The counter counts to 30, and then tries to find the hiders and tag them before they run to home base and are safe from being the designated counter.
8. Play fun outdoor games after dark. Flashlight Tag is an exciting game for warm summer nights when the kids want to stay outside and play. A fun spin on Hide And Go Seek, Flashlight Tag is sure to create wonderful memories that last a lifetime! Everyone hides in the dark while the counter counts to 30. Then the designated counter, armed with a flashlight, sets out to find the hiders. The counter’s goal is to tag a hider by lighting him up with the flashlight while calling out his name before he can run to home base.
9. Dive for bottle caps in the pool. Kids are competitive and enjoy team sports. Split the kids into two teams and toss several bottle caps to the bottom of the pool. One child from each team will dive for bottle caps at the same time. The goal of the game is to see how many bottle caps each person can gather in one breath. To designate the winning team, count the bottle caps after each team member has gone.
Summer is a great time to get back to basics. Enjoy life more by spending time together as a family. Get the kids involved in outdoor activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. Make memories over summer vacation that foster fun and include everyone in the family–you won’t regret it!
